HSK Standard Course is developed under the joint efforts of Beijing Language and Culture University Press and Chinese Testing International (CTI). With HSK test papers as its primary source, HSK Standard Course is characterized by a humorous style, familiar topics, and a scientific course design. The whole series is divided into six levels matching the HSK test, with one volume for each of Levels 1-3 and two volumes for each of Levels 4-6, totalling nine volumes.
These are the textbooks that we believe you will need for whichever level of learning you’re currently at. With the HSK it is necessary to invest in a textbook and a workbook so you can do the exercises and check your progress. The following HSK textbooks are incredibly useful. They take you through all of the grammar, sentence structures and provide you with all of the necessary vocabulary that you will need to pass the HSK exams.
HSK 1 Standard Course Book
HSK standard course Level 1 book takes you through the first 150 characters, and the appropriate grammar for this level. It will help you to learn how to make basic sentences and talk about yourself, your family and where you’re from.
HSK 2 Standard Course Book
At HSK 2 you learn 150 new characters (Total 300 – Old 150 + New 150) so the jump isn’t too great. The HSK 2 standard course is the perfect textbook to help you to make this jump.
HSK 3 Standard Course Book
HSK 3 is a bit more difficult but still manageable. In this HSK textbook you will learn 300 new characters (Total 600 – Old 300 + New 300) to prepare you for HSK 3.
HSK 4 Standard Course Book
There are two textbooks to cover the HSK4 material as there is much more to learn than in the previous exams.
HSK4 is where things really start hitting up and you have to learn a whopping new 600 characters (Total 1200 – Old 600 + New 600), which is why we the textbook is now divided in to two to cover the big leap in material that you have to learn compared to 1, 2 and 3.
HSK 5 Standard Course Book
There are also two HSK 5 textbooks to help you learn to cover everything you’ll need to know ready for the HSK exam.
HSK 5 is an incredibly difficult exam but with these two textbooks and a lot of practise there is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to nail it. In these textbooks you will learn 1200 new characters (Total 2400 – Old 1200 + New 1200). That’s pretty much everything you’ve learned up to now again! But don’t worry, with the basis in Mandarin that you now already have this should be much easier than learning the first 1200 characters.
HSK 6 Standard Course Book
For the time being, HSK 6 is the highest level for advanced learners. The expectation here is that you’re fluent and can easily understand everything you hear and read. To pass the HSK 6 test, you should be at ease with most aspects of Chinese in personal, academic, or professional settings. To be more precise, you are expected to know about 2,500 characters, 5,000 vocabulary words, and have a good mastery of Chinese grammar.
